Storm Door Handing, Hardware, and Pre-Hung Options

Use the outside view for hinge direction

For the 740, 760, and 810 quote, identify left or right hinges while standing outside and facing the entry. This viewpoint needs to be explicit because left and right reverse when you walk through the doorway. Add an exterior photograph with the desired hinge side marked when there is any uncertainty.

Do not select handing only to match the interior door without considering how people approach the entry. Review the porch, steps, railing, wall, doorbell, and the space a person needs to stand while opening both doors. The installer should confirm that the intended swing works with the actual landing and site conditions.

The base storm doors are not pre-hung

The documented 740, 760, and 810 base doors are not pre-hung. Pre-hanging is an option to specify in the quote. A photograph showing a framed door does not mean that every quoted package contains an assembled frame or all installation components.

Tell us whether you are replacing a complete storm-door assembly, trying to reuse a frame, or planning a new installation. Reusing an old frame requires more than a matching nominal size. Hinge locations, profiles, clearances, hardware, and the condition of the frame need review before a replacement can be considered compatible.

Included hardware and requested additions

Black lever hardware and a deadbolt are included in the three storm-door family descriptions. Keep the hardware schedule tied to the product family and list any required additional components.

If you need a closer, hold-open feature, different finish, special lock arrangement, or replacement part, list it in the request. We do not assume those items from the word complete or from an older installation. Confirm each required item in the written quote, including any component that your installer will supply separately.

Check the space between handles

The outer door and primary entry can each fit their own frames yet have handles that collide when closed. Measure the space between the mounting planes and photograph the entry lever or knob from the side. Include any projecting lock hardware, decorative trim, and unusual jamb details.

The same review should consider access to the deadbolt and comfortable operation of the lever. Do not solve a clearance problem by drilling a new location or trimming a frame before the manufacturer’s installation requirements are checked. A small geometry change can affect the fit of more than one component.

Make the approved configuration easy to read

A clear door schedule lists family, model number or finish, width and height, the meaning of those dimensions, outside-view hinge side, glass or screen package, pre-hung choice, hardware, and quantity. Label each opening so that two different entries cannot be confused.

When the quote arrives, review that schedule with the person installing the door. Resolve unclear phrases before ordering. Final mounting instructions, included components, and site preparation should all agree with the assembly being supplied; a general online guide cannot replace those model-specific details.
