Match the Trim, Not the Siding
This is the single most useful rule for choosing, and it is the one most people get backwards. A storm window mounts inside the window opening, against the casing, the blind stop, and the brickmould. Those surfaces sit within an inch or two of the frame, so that is what the eye compares it against. The siding is a foot away and rarely enters into it.
A white storm window on white trim reads as part of the window. The same unit on stained oak trim reads as a white rectangle stuck to the house, no matter how well it fits. Get a paint chip or a photo of the casing in daylight before you decide.

The colour goes onto the extrusion as part of fabrication, not as a coat of paint over a finished window. That matters for two reasons. It covers the full profile including the returns and the inside faces of the channels, which is where a sprayed finish gets missed and where corrosion starts. And it does not build up film thickness inside the sash channels, so the sashes keep sliding as freely in year ten as they did on day one.
Practically, that means the finish is not something you maintain. There is nothing to repaint, and no annual coat to keep it looking right. Wash it when you wash the glass.

Which Storm Window Color Should I Choose?+
Match the trim, not the siding. The storm window frame sits inside the window opening against the casing and brickmould, so that is the surface the eye compares it to. White trim takes white, stained or natural wood takes bronze, and black-framed replacement windows take black. When the trim is a colour we do not offer, mill is the most neutral of the five.
Can I Get Storm Windows in a Custom Color?+
Not through the current online product line. The available choices are Mill, White, Tan, Bronze, and Black. If none of those works for your facade, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether another solution is possible.
Can Storm Windows Be Painted After They Are Installed?+
They can be, but we do not recommend it as a first choice. Aluminum needs a self-etching primer to hold paint, and any coating applied over the factory finish will eventually chalk or peel at the corners where the sashes rub. Ordering the finish you want costs less over the life of the window than repainting it twice.
Does the Frame Color Affect the Price?+
Mill, White, Tan, and Bronze are included in the base frame price. Black is a powder-coat upgrade priced by the combined width and height of the window, with the exact added price shown in the configurator.
What Color Are the Screens?+
The screen surround is matched to the frame finish you select, so a bronze unit arrives with a bronze screen surround. The mesh itself is charcoal fiberglass in every case, because lighter mesh is far more visible from outside and reduces how well you can see out.
