  • ENERGY STAR

    ENERGY STAR certified

    ENERGY STAR

This Low-E aluminum storm window is ENERGY STAR certified. The EPA estimates that certified low-e storm windows save homeowners about $350 a year, roughly 10 percent of heating and cooling bills, over single-pane clear glass windows without existing storm windows, and that the extra cost pays back in about three years.

    • Rated by climate zone. Depending on the model, windows are rated for the Northern or Southern climate zone.
    • AERC air leakage rating. Our products are evaluated by the Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC). Select interior models achieve a 0.1 air leakage rating.
    • Low emissivity glass. The architectural glass has a Low-E coating with an emissivity rating of 0.16, which reflects infrared and ultraviolet light to help keep indoor temperatures stable.
    • Weep holes. This exterior window has weep holes at the bottom of the frame so moisture can drain. Never caulk over them.

The EPA calls these estimates conservative. Actual savings depend on your climate, your home and your utility rates.

What does ENERGY STAR certified mean?
  • Independently rated by AERC

    AERC rated

The Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC) is an independent, nonprofit organization that rates the energy performance of window attachments, including storm windows. This window is rated, so its air leakage and thermal performance are measured the same way as every other rated attachment and published in AERC’s public directory.

    What does AERC certified mean?
  • 20-year limited warranty

A 20-year limited warranty covers aluminum structural members and mechanical parts against defects in material and workmanship. Painted aluminum is covered against blistering, peeling and flaking for 10 years, and screens for 1 year. Broken glass, torn screens and damage from improper installation are not covered.

FAQs

What is the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung?

An exterior double-hung storm with a central mounting flange and a low-profile box frame. Designed for projects where the view of the original window matters.

Does the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung include a screen?

Yes. Removable screen. Operation: vertical sliding sash.

What glass is in the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung?

Low-E glass. Specialty glazing is reviewed separately by quote.

Is the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung ENERGY STAR certified?

Yes. This model is ENERGY STAR certified for Northern and Southern climate zones.

Is the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung AERC certified?

Yes. This model is independently rated by the Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC), which tests and rates the energy performance of window attachments such as storm windows. AERC does not pass or fail a product the way ENERGY STAR does; it publishes performance numbers so models can be compared. Ask us and we will send the certification details for this model.

Are storm windows eligible for tax credits or rebates?

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, so there is no current federal credit for windows. Some utilities, states and local programs still offer efficiency rebates, and many ask for ENERGY STAR certified or AERC-rated products. Programs and amounts vary, so check with yours before you buy. We cannot promise any specific rebate, but we can supply certification details for a model on request.

What is an insulating glass system (IGS), and how is it different from an IGU?

An insulating glass system mounts over the window you already have, and the still air between the two windows is the insulating layer; the added glass is typically Low-E coated. An insulating glass unit (IGU) seals two or more panes together at the edge, usually with gas inside, and is part of a replacement window. A system has no sealed edge or gas fill to fail, and your original window stays in place.

Does the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung have weep holes?

Yes. Exterior storm windows have weep holes at the bottom of the frame so moisture that collects between your existing window and the storm window can drain out. Never caulk over the weep holes.

Which frame colors does the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung come in?

White, Brown, Black, Custom color. Choose the color on the product page after you enter your measurements.

Where does the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung mount?

It mounts on the exterior. A two-track system combines a removable upper sash and screen with an operating lower sash.

How do I measure for the Architectural Aluminum Exterior Double Hung?

Choose how your window mounts: blind stop, overlap or window track. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and record every reading exactly as measured. Measure the height down both sides, stopping at the bottom of the drop on a drop sill or at the highest point of the sill on a standard sill. Do not add or subtract an allowance. We keep the readings for fit review and build only to the dimensions confirmed for the order.

Which mounting method am I?

Look at how an exterior storm window would attach. If there is a blind stop, a narrow strip of trim set against the window frame, it attaches into the blind stop. If the window has flat casing around it and the storm would sit on the outside face of that trim, it is an overlap mount. If the window has a screen track the storm can slide into, it is a window-track mount. Choose yours in our measuring guide and the steps change to match; if you are not sure, send photos and we will tell you.
