A Guide to Basement Storm Windows

Choose a configuration that fits your opening, access, and ventilation needs.

Choose the opening style

Fixed panels suit openings that do not need to operate. Horizontal sliders provide an operating configuration for wide openings. Check that the added frame will not interfere with the primary window or required access.

Check the mounting surface

Look for a sound, flat surface around the opening. Note window-well clearance, trim depth, pipes, and handles. Address water entry and damaged surfaces before installation.

Keep a complete measurement record

Measure the opening at the intended mounting plane and retain all width and height readings. Confirm whether your project needs an opening size or overall frame size before ordering.
